A Community Pocket Forest is coming to Brentwood
Transforming Ces Deceau Reserve into a thriving native forest
Planting Winter 2026
Regenerate Australia is working with the Brentwood community to transform an underutilised space into a thriving Community Pocket Forest designed to support black cockatoos, cool the local environment, and enhance local biodiversity.
Using a holistic planting approach and co-designed with the local community, the future pocket forest will establish a rich, diverse native habitat that grows into a thriving native habitat as it matures. More than 35 native species will be considered to support black cockatoos with food and shelter, helping return nature to the heart of the neighbourhood.

This pocket forest is being created for the community – and with the community.
Over the coming months, we’ll be connecting with local residents to invite participation, gather input and share updates.
There will also be community workshops and conversations where you can have your say in shaping the forest’s design, purpose and long-term stewardship.
What are Community Pocket Forests?
Community Pocket Forests are small, diverse native forests designed to bring the benefits of natural ecosystems into urban environments. These forests:
- Create welcoming green spaces for the community to enjoy
- Bring neighbours together through hands-on involvement in design, planting and care
- Provide cool, shaded areas for the community to enjoy as the forest matures
- Grow into self-sustaining ecosystems that become richer and more biodiverse over time
- Provide habitat for native wildlife, including black cockatoos
As cities experience rising heat and declining biodiversity, Community Pocket Forests offer a practical, community-driven solution – transforming underused areas into thriving ecological spaces that grow richer over time.
These forests grow more than trees – they grow community.
