This week, our Raukkan Conservation Community Project was named a Bronze Award for Nature winner in the 2026 Australian Geographic Awards for Nature, one of just five projects recognised nationally this year.
This recognition reflects a community-led vision to care for Country, restore degraded landscapes and create a place where nature, culture and community can thrive together.
A meeting place on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe (Country)
Raukkan sits on the shores of Lake Alexandrina within the Coorong, a wetland of international importance. Working alongside the Raukkan community, Ngarrindjeri Rangers and The Forktree Project, we are restoring around 2,000 hectares of degraded wetland and woodland, employing and training Ngarrindjeri Rangers in Elder-guided restoration along the way.
Sam Sweeting, who leads this project for Regenerate Australia, was on stage to accept the award. It’s a proud moment for the whole team, and for everyone at Raukkan who has poured time, knowledge and care into this work.
The $20,000 award will help us build on the momentum of this year’s planting, continuing the restoration of Raukkan’s wetlands and woodland and supporting the Ngarrindjeri Rangers who care for this Country every day.
